American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

Terrible..i was told by a sales lady that I was rude.I spent half hour trying to to order a burnt almond torte and then I was told ny a fark haired sales lady I had to order on line and wouldn’t let me pay for it..after i gave her all my contact information requested another woman came out and told me I was unpleasant and wanted me to step back and change my attitude and to wait on the other people that came in after me..I tried to buy 4 cookies just to be nice and didn’t think I needed wait any longer and she wantedto take care of other customers .Finally i left and was embarrassed by her patronizing attitude and condescending loud lectures about me intge store. On top of that the cookies were soft and mushy.I felt abused.

We met with Kim here to do a wedding cake testing and it was wonderful! Very efficient and clear pricing, plus the cake was delicious and very reasonably priced! Can't wait for the big day with them! Loved that the tasting was complimentary. Kim was very responsive and very nice to work with.

I purchased an 8x8 burnt almond torte from the shadyside location. The cake tasted delicious but was obviously previously frozen (and for how long, I have no idea). The custard was lacking and freezing it affected the texture as well. I won't be back, not worth the price imo, especially when you aren't even getting a fresh product. Please note, I would come back if they advertised what days they actually made the cakes so I could buy a fresh product.

Finally tried the famous Burnt Almond Cake from Prantl! They have a bunch of different treats, their almond croissants and cookies have been great, but I was surprisingly underwhelmed by the Almond cake. The toasted outside was the best part, but the frosting was really sweet and the cream in the middle had no flavor. The cake itself was light and fluffy which was the better part. Also tried the raspberry version, which I would not really recommend if you don’t like fake fruit flavoring, original is the one to try. Overall I still love a lot of their pastries and they’re very consistent, just don’t need to get the almond cake again.

Finally got around to trying this very famous cake that some call the best in the USA. The burnt almond torte. Tried for a special occasion, the torte and the carrot cake pastry. The burnt almond torte was very good. The best I’ve ever had? Maybe, but not for sure. The cream is so tasty, the cake itself is soft and surprisingly flavorful with some vanilla, and the almonds are just so so good. So crunchy and sugary. It is really good and well worth the price. I love that they have smaller bars now, which are actually still quite large. However, can’t say the same about the carrot cake. It was so tiny and not that flavorful at all. I am surprised they came from the same bakery.
